Nature Photographer, teacher and my Mom.
Sam Rowell
First and foremost, she loved nature.  After teaching us to save every wounded creature that came to our home, she picked up a Nikon.  Her future awaited her.  With knowledge and art in her mind’s eye, she traveled mostly in the U.S.A. to take her photos.  Her excellence came from waking at dawn, waiting for sunset, always looking for correct lighting.  She started a Nature Photo club and inspired many.  Having received too many awards in Illinois, she stopped what she called nonsense and judged, in a friendly manner.  Always a teacher, always an artist, she taught me the old-fashioned dark room.  I learned to love nature and other photography from her, plus rudimentary dark room skills.  We became far closer as adults at Yellowstone and other places with Nikon’s in hand.  She was and will always be far better than I will be.  Her patience and perseverance brought her friendships, and a raison d’ etre, to the end of her time.

Winter is beautiful. Something about nature as barren and white pulls at the senses. It is easier to view winter from the warmth of a fireside than from the outdoors.

Persephone's life in hell
Sam Rowell
six months of the year caused the Greek gods to withdraw growth and renewal for the period of her stay there. While we understand the real reason for the change in seasons, sometimes it is easy to imagine that the gods have withdrawn light and warmth due to the absence of the beauty, Persephone. Stay warm readers.
